AMU's Special Centre In Bihar On Fast Track

Patna's Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar brought establishment of the special centre of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Kishanganj on fast track recently.

In a presentation meeting held at the Chief Minister's office in Patna Mr. Nitish Kumar directed the state officials to place the issue of allotment of 250 acres of land for the AMU Centre in the next meeting of the Cabinet to be held on February 9 or 17, 2010 .

While discussing the details of the proposed centre with AMU team led by Vice Chancellor Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis the Chief Minister has expressed happiness over the fact that the AMU model includes the school system also and urged the visiting team to specially focus on needs of the local people of the region.

Putting emphasis on teachers training Mr. Nitish said that, "Out of two lakh teachers in the state one lakh teachers are untrained," and asked the Vice Chancellor to workout a programme for starting quality training for these teachers.

The CM said that there is a huge demand for nursing, pharmacy and college of education in Bihar and this fact must also be incorporated while building the center.

In the power point presentation the Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis explained the genesis of conceiving the center and the process of their establishment.

He has thanked Mr. Nitish Kumar for providing 250 acres of land within 6 months on fast track basis.

In order to facilitate the establishment of the center in Kishanganj and making it functional from the next academic session, the Vice-Chancellor urged the CM to transfer the land in the name of AMU free from all encumbrances by the end of this month.

In response to this request, the CM said that as per the states rules, the land could only be leased for a period of 30 years and subsequently renewable and of course leasing state government's land as good as transferring ownership.

The Vice-Chancellor has also asked for providing 30 meters wide road connecting the campus to the state / national highways and construction of electricity sub-station as well as providing drinking water within an uninterrupted supply.

Besides this, the visiting team requested sewage treatment plant, surface area development, internal cabling and providing basic statistics of the proposed land.

Team from AMU was asked by the CM to visit Kishanganj after February 17, 2010, and assured that by that time the cabinet will approve the allotment of land to AMU.

The Minister asked the state officials to simultaneously start widening of road work and the other civic amenities required for the center.

He has also asked the AMU team to start working on the project relating to Kishanganj Center without waiting for the formal approval.

The AMU team was represented by the Vice-Chancellor AMU, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, Prof. Ekram Hussain, Prof. N. A. K. Durrani, Prof M. Saud Alam Qasmi, Prof. Javaid Akhter and Member of Parliament from Kishanganj Maulana Israrul Haque who is also a member of AMU Court was also present on the occasion.

The news of establishment of the center and the positive steps of the state government is envisaging has brought cheers and happiness among the wide section of people of Bihar in general and Kishangnaj in particular.
