Bihar Seeks Reimbursement Of Amount Spent On National Highways
The Bihar government has sought reimbursement for expenditure of Rs 711.97 crores incurred by the state on the maintenance of 1951 kms National Highway in the state during the year 2006-07 and 2007-08.
Taking part in the meeting of Road Construction Ministers of all states held in Parliament Annexe in Delhi on Friday, the Bihar's minister for road construction, Prem Kumar, said that during these periods, the conditions of NHs in the state was deplorable, and the state government improved their conditions in the state by sanctioning funds in the budget. He said that time to time this was requested by the officers of the state. He said that chief minister, Nitish Kumar, personally met the Prime Minister and Union Transport Minister and has also written about it, but till date the amount has not been reimbursed. Prem Kumar explained on this occasion that under East-West Corridor Scheme in Bihar 4 Lane expansion of 513.30 kms roads have been taken but the progress is very slow. He said that four-lane conversion of 1015 kms roads under NHDP, Phase-3 scheme by Central government was taken five years back, but ground work has not started yet. The minister requested the Centre to complete the work at the earliest. The meeting was presided over by Kamal Nath, Union minister, Surface Transport and Highways.
